SUDI Prevention Funding Initiative

We’re looking for community groups, organisations, and whānau champions who are passionate about raising awareness and supporting whānau with safe sleep practices.

What the Funding Supports

The SUDI Prevention Initiative Fund supports the delivery of community-led initiatives that align with the following outcomes:

  • Every sleep is a safe sleep for our pēpi.
  • Whānau have better knowledge about safe sleep practices that match their living situation.

Key Messaging

All funded initiatives must promote the following safe sleep messages and approaches:

  • Place baby on their back for every sleep
  • Ensure baby’s face is always up and clear
  • Breastfeeding provides protection against illness
  • Use gentle hands when holding and caring for baby
  • Smoking and vaping when pregnant increases the risk of SUDI.

Who Can Apply

Eligibility: Funding is available any legal entity, trust, or organisation eligible for funding.

If you don’t qualify directly, you can apply in partnership with an eligible organisation – give us a call to explore your options.

How the Funds Can Be Spent

Funds must be used for the approved kaupapa and must be spent by Sunday, June 22, 2025.

Your Responsibilities

Once you receive funding, you’re expected to:

  • Use the funds exclusively for the approved activities.
  • Maintain accurate financial records.
  • Submit a final report by Monday, June 30, 2025.
  • Inform us as soon as possible if there are any changes to your planned event or activities.

Misuse of funds or failure to meet reporting requirements might mean you have to repay the funds or could affect your eligibility for future funding.
